University of Leicester – Centre for Medicine

Construction of the new Centre for Medicine at the University of Leicester is the largest investment in medical teaching and applied research in the UK, bringing together different medical departments including health sciences, psychology, medical education and social work.

The building is credited as the largest non-residential Passivhaus building in the UK. At over 12,500m2, the building comprises of 2 lecture theatres and office and teaching space which accommodates over 2,300 students, teachers and administrative support staff.

Distinct and high quality design

Designs were developed in collaboration with stakeholders to maximise the design potential. The building includes a green wall, roof and planting regime which is designed to attract insects and birds to help pollination and promote biodiversity.

The scheme delivered a variety of sustainable features and obtained a BREEAM Excellent rating.
